The story behind the artwork

I sketched this hummingbird because of my own deep love for birds – their character, their fragility, and the tiny moments of beauty they bring into our lives. After learning more about the Hook-billed Hermit Hummingbird and its endangered status in Brazil, I wanted to honour its delicate beauty and quiet strength. Its survival is threatened by rapid habitat loss and deforestation, and I hoped to capture its grace in flight as a gentle reminder of what we stand to lose without care and conservation. This piece forms part of my BirdLife Collection, celebrating birdlife and encouraging awareness of species at risk.
