The story behind the artwork

I sketched this hummingbird because of my own deep love for birds – their character, their fragility, and the tiny moments of beauty they bring into our lives. The Hook-billed Hermit Hummingbird is officially classified as Endangered, with its survival threatened by deforestation and habitat fragmentation in Brazil. I wanted to portray it perched calmly on a branch to capture its delicate presence and quiet strength. This piece forms part of my BirdLife Collection, celebrating birdlife and encouraging awareness of species at risk.
